Wedding · Kumasi, Ghana
A traditional Kumasi wedding that opened under grey skies and cleared into golden light — celebrated well into the night.
The Story
Qojoh and Cassie's wedding began with a steady rain at first. By the time the family had gathered in their rich kente attire for the dowry exchange which gave way to vows, the clouds had broken apart entirely, leaving behind the kind of clear Kumasi afternoon sky no forecast could have promised.
We stayed close through every shift in the day's mood, moving between the main house, the compound and the reception area as quiet ritual gave way to full celebration. By nightfall the dancing hadn't stopped, and neither had we.
Qojoh and Cassie made the journey from Canada for a wedding rooted entirely in Ashanti tradition. Every custom, from the kente to the rites, was new and worth getting right, and it was our job to document it exactly as it deserved. Below is the story, told from our perspective.
